Terrestrial Laser Scanning

TLS uses combines time-of-flight or phase-based laser ranging with precision angular measurement to acquiring accurate (2-4 mm),         dense (1-3 mm) 3d survey observations at between 50-500 kHz and over ranges >100 metres.

This creates the potential to acquire reach-scale topographic datasets containing 106-109 observations at hitherto unprecedented resolution. Terrestrial Laser Scanning, for the first time, offers the possibility to archive digital facsimiles of landforms: Hyperscale Models which represent the system-scale from the grain upwards.

The Leica ScanStation II

A workhorse, multi-task laser scanner.  Capable of acquiring at 50,000 kHz over ranges exceeding 250 m.

In ReesScan we deloy TLS from on a mobile amphibious vehicle (an Argo) on which we continuously measure position and orientation of the scanner enabling us to register our scandata on the move thus covering large areas in a short period of time
