River Flow Records

River levels and calibrated flows are monitored at two points on the Rees: upstream of our study reach near Invincible Mine and downstream at the Paradise Road bridge (see study area for details).

At Invincible we have installed a array of sensors, including a bubbler pressure transducer, a Greenspan turbidity meter and a Sontek side-looking aDcp Argonaut profiler.  These sensors provide data on river level, velocity, suspended sediment concentration, and after some calibration, estimates of the volumetric river flow.

Downstream at the Paradise Road Bridge the river is braided with flow concentrated in two channels or anabranches.  Above each of these we have installed a downward-looking radar sensor which measures the distance to the water level.  Actual river flows during significant events will be monitored here using Sontek's new aDcp profiler, the S5 River Surveyor.

Data from Invincible are relayed to the team by satellite telemetry every hour, and are posted here on this site daily.  Check back to see whether the river is worth a visit!
