Richard is a Research Associate at Aberystwyth University. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Cambridge and a postgraduate degree from Lancaster University. Before joining the ReesScan project team, Richard worked for four years at JBA Consulting. At JBA he applied his knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics and geomorphology to a range of research and applied projects for the UK Government, private developers and the insurance industry. In 2008 Richard’s work was highly commended in the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management’s (CIWEM) Young Members’ Award.
His research interests lie in the fields of geomorphology, hydrology, flood inundation modelling, geomatics and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). He has extensive international experience of field campaigns, including work in the Indian Himalayas, the Scottish highlands, the Spanish Pyrenees and the Swiss Alps. Richard’s research into the dynamics of braided rivers has been underpinned by the use of state-of-the-art survey equipment, including Real Time Kinematic (RTK) Global Positioning System (GPS) and Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) instrumentation.
Richard enjoys a range of outdoor pursuits in the mountains. He’s also well known for cooking plenty of flapjack to fuel long fieldwork campaigns! |
