Mark is Lecturer in Physical Geography in the River Basin Dynamics and Hydrology Research Group at Aberystwyth University. He was as both an undergraduate and postgraduate of Durham University UK, and was awarded his PhD in 2009.

Mark's primary research interests focus on hillslope hydrology and runoff production in semi-arid areas. An important component of this research involved the use of terrestrial laser scanning to develop parameterizations of hillslope flow resistance-roughness from very high resolution DEMs. An important focus of Mark's current work is to extend this approach to gravel bed rivers and wider geomorphological settings.
