Ramon J. Batalla
 
Ramon is Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography at the University of Lleida and Head of the Hydrology Section at the Forestry and Technology Center, both in Catalonia. He received his PhD from University of Barcelona in 1993 for research into the sediment budget of the Arbúcies River in the Catalan Coastal Ranges.

He is a fluvial geomorphologist whose research focuses on monitoring and modelling fluvial processes, especially: sediment transport in sand and gravel bed rivers; human interference on catchment and fluvial processes in Mediterranean mountainous areas; sediment management in regulated rivers; river restoration and eco-geomorphology; and flood risk modelling and mapping. He leads and participates in serveral funded projects and contracts at a national and international level, in particular through collaborations with the Free University of Berlin, the University of California in Berkeley, the University Aberdeen, the University of Potsdam and the Aberystwyth University.
