Research Objectives

The project has six specific objectives which will help us link the key technological, methodological and substantive goals of the research programme.
  • To use Terrestrial Laser Scanning to derive hyperscale topographic models       of the Rees River before and after floods in spring-autumn 2009-2010;
  • Derive system-wide maps of surface sedimentology from TLS data,      quantifying particle-size distributions, packing and surface roughness;
  • Develop reach-scale sediment budgets and inverse estimates of longitudinal sediment transport by differencing sequential Digital Elevation Models;
  • Track the propagation and evolution of morphological and sedimentological   units in sediment transfer pathways through sequential events;
  • Relate the time-space patterns of bed mobility and sediment transport to the distribution of modelled hydraulic forces and governing discharge;
  • To quantify the uncertainty of DEMs and step-length models and evaluate       the consequent reliability of inverse sediment transport estimates;
